Orthodontics is when dental appliances are used to move your teeth to the desired position. There are various ways to move your teeth which include: removable braces or fixed braces. Braces have progressed since the train track days and having removable or fixed braces is much easier.
Are you tired of waiting for the NHS to correct your children’s teeth?
At Mews House dental, our ortho team can help your child to create the smile they will be proud of.
Fixed braces / train tracks as they are commonly called require intervention at the right time. We can assess whether it is the right time for your child.
We have children ourselves so we know that we need to consider not only if it is the right time dentally for them but also emotionally and physically.
Like all ortho treatment, commitment from the individual, parents and the family as a whole is needed to ensure that this treatment works.
Your child is likely to benefit from fixed braces if:
These are braces which are brackets attached to each of your teeth and joined by wire. These fixed wires are fitted by your dentist. During the treatment period, the wires in your mouth are moved periodically during a dental visit to create gentle pressure which gradually moves the teeth to the desired location. The wires can not be removed for the duration of your treatment.
It is not just children that benefit from fixed braces but also adults.
There are various types of fixed braces which include traditional metal braces, this is commonly used.
Lingual braces which are attached to the inside of your teeth and hidden from view. Beneficial for those who play contact sports or a wind instrument.
Clear ceramic braces are less visible and made discreet by having wire that is plastic coated.
Prices for the following are:
Silver fixed braces- from £1,995
Clear fixed braces- from £2,495
Lingual Braces (braces behind the teeth) – from £3,995
Our dentists use brands like Invisalign® and Sure Smile®, two of the top invisible products in the market. This allows you to remove the aligners whilst eating. Commitment is needed to ensure that this treatment works, this will require wearing the aligners about 22 hours (only taking them out to eat).
You’re likely to benefit from Invisible braces if:
It all depends on your complexity of your treatment and how many aligners you need, prices start from £1,995
You will be required to have regular appointments throughout the treatment period.
There is very little pain involved, however, there may be a tight sensation when your new aligners are used.

You will be required to attend an orthodontics appointment where 3D scanning of your teeth will be carried out by your dentist. This allows you to see how we can help achieve the desired results.
The dentist will go through all the options that are available for you and will advise you on the best option. Previous case studies will also be shown to you to see how great your dentist is! This will be followed up with a written treatment plan and outline of costs.

Once you have decided to go ahead with the treatment, your first appointment will involve going through the care instructions and process.
You will be given a number of aligners and then its over to you.

At set points of your treatment, you will be asked to make an appointment to see how well you are progressing.
Of course, our dentists are always on hand to answer any questions or concerns that you may have.
Your teeth will not move as planned. This will delay the treatment time and in some cases treatment may have to be abandoned. It will be a waste of money if you are not committed to wearing the aligners for the prescribed time.
Yes, both adults and children (above 9 years old) can wear fixed braces. It depends on what you want to achieve and how much your teeth need to move. Your dentist will recommend the best option for you.
